Gym operators must be more responsive to membership cancellations during a pandemic!
Please stop in at LaRuelist Café @6 pm today, December 9, 2020 as Assemblywoman Angela McKnight speaks about her efforts to clarify gym operators’ responsibilities to their members in the face of infectious disease outbreaks. Assemblywoman McKnight represents Hudson County’s District 31 and joined as a sponsor by Assemblyman Herb Conaway, Jr. Assemblyman Conaway represents Burlington County’s District 7 and is a physician. During the time of a pandemic, it becomes even more critical that individuals take care of themselves through good nutrition, exercise, and decreased stress. But, what if an avid gym-goer finds it too stressful to enter a facility for fear of contracting COVID-19? Gym operators have varied how they handle loyal members who seek to cancel gym memberships for fear of negatively impacting their health. Assemblywoman Angela McKnight has introduced a piece of legislation that will address this dilemma. A-5062 provides for terms of membership cancellation that gym operators would have to follow should persons seek to cancel membership due to the Governor declaring an emergency because of an outbreak of infectious diseases in the State.
Do I HAVE to pay a penalty to cancel my gym contract during a pandemic?
